WEBINAR
What: Domestic Abuse webinar
Who: Sarah Simpkin and Kate Little
When: Tuesday 29 July, 7-8pm
Where: Zoom
Who is it for: All those with any pastoral ministry, or anyone who is interested in broadening their understanding of this vitally important subject.
Sarah Simpkin (member of the Connexional Safeguarding Committee with lived experience of abuse) will deliver a thought-provoking presentation about her personal story of domestic violence and rape in an abusive relationship. She will speak challengingly of how eventually her partner shut her off from all social contact apart from church, where the congregation sadly failed to support her through embarrassment, ignorance or apathy. Sarah will be willing to answer any questions about her experience and offer advice about how a church community can respond well to someone who they suspect may be experiencing domestic abuse.
Kate Little (Connexional Safeguarding Team) will then give a brief overview of the Methodist Church’s Domestic Abuse policy, highlighting its theological underpinning, what signs to watch out for as well as more on how to respond if someone in one of our churches is being subjected to domestic abuse.”
